The European branch of the International Alliance of Journalists, established in 2010, has aims to promote the values and the principles of the organisation inside the European Institutions.
The International Alliance of Journalists sees media freedom as a prerequisite for democracy in Europe : decisions cannot be taken democratically at a European level as long as there is not an independent and pluralistic media throughout Europe, as sanctioned by the European Charter on Human Rights.
